What is my IP address?

Your public IP address
…

What websites learn from it

Every site and app you connect to sees this address. The report shows what it gives away: your internet provider, roughly where you are, and whether it looks like a VPN, a proxy or Tor, or is on a threat list.

Questions

Is this the address of my PC?
No. It is the address of your router or your internet provider's equipment, shared by every device in your home. Your PC has a private address, such as 192.168.1.20, that only your local network sees. Run ipconfig to see that one.
Why does it show a different city?
Location from an IP address comes from where the provider registers or routes it, which is often a regional hub rather than where you are. Mobile networks and VPNs move it further away.
I am using a VPN. Why does it say "Ordinary connection"?
If the address shown is your VPN's, the VPN works: websites see its address instead of yours. Some VPN providers use addresses that databases don't recognise as VPN servers.
Why do I see an IPv6 address?
Your connection supports IPv6, and your browser used it to reach us. Sites that only speak IPv4 see a different address, the IPv4 one your provider gives your router.
Do you keep my address?
Showing it records nothing. The full report asks ipapi.is about the address and keeps its answer for up to 90 days, so a second look costs nothing. See the privacy policy.
