Sign out on the old PC to release its license, then sign in or activate the same key on the new one. If the old PC is gone, open a support ticket and ask for it to be released.
NetSecWall for WindowsOn this page
To move a NetSecWall license to a new PC, sign out on the old PC with Help ▸ Sign in to NetSecWall… ▸ Sign out, which releases the license from that machine. Then install NetSecWall on the new PC and sign in with the same account, or activate the same key. If the old PC is broken, lost or already wiped, open a support ticket and ask for it to be released.
Before you move your license to a new PC
- Plans are priced per device. Your account page on netsecwall.com lists every PC that has activated your license under Your devices, with its name, status and when it was last seen.
- Your data doesn't travel with the license. History, rules and settings are stored on each PC, and NetSecWall doesn't sync between PCs. Step 3 below covers the part you can carry over.
- There's no rush. A PC that has never run NetSecWall starts its own 7-day trial, so the new machine is fully working while you finish the move.
Step 1: release the license on the old PC
If you signed in to NetSecWall with your account:
- Make sure the old PC is online. Signing out tells NetSecWall's server to release the PC, and that needs a connection.
- Choose Help ▸ Sign in to NetSecWall….
- Click Sign out and confirm. The confirmation explains that this releases the license seat for this machine.
- The dialog shows Signed out. NetSecWall on this PC stops protecting it once any trial time is used up.
If you activated the old PC with a license key and never signed in, the dialog has no Sign out button. Sign in first with your NetSecWall account, which uses the email address you bought with (Forgot password resets the password if you never set one). Once signed in, Sign out appears; click it and confirm.

Uninstalling NetSecWall does not release the license. The license is bound to the PC on NetSecWall's server, so sign out first, then uninstall if you no longer need it on the old machine.
Step 2: activate on the new PC
- Install NetSecWall on the new PC.
- Choose Help ▸ Sign in to NetSecWall….
- Sign in with your account, or click Have a license key?, paste your key and click Activate key.
- Check that the What your license includes box lists your plan, then click Done.
The full walk-through, including what to do if the dialog asks you to verify the PC in your browser, is in sign in or activate a license key.
Step 3: bring your settings across (optional)
On the old PC, File ▸ Export settings… saves your content-category choices and custom domains to a JSON file. Copy the file to the new PC and load it with File ▸ Import settings….

Everything else stays behind: traffic history, app and country blocks, Learning-mode decisions, parental controls and the settings password. Set those up again on the new PC; the old history remains on the old PC until you uninstall it with the delete-data option.
If the old PC is dead, lost or already wiped
You can't sign out of a PC you can no longer start. Instead:
- Open a billing support ticket.
- Include your license key or order reference (it looks like
NL-XXXXXXXXXX), and the old PC's name as it appears under Your devices on your account page, if you can see it. - Ask for that PC to be released from your license.
Tickets are answered by a person, Monday to Friday, usually within one business day. In the meantime, activate the new PC as described above.
Reinstalled Windows or replaced parts?
NetSecWall recognizes a PC by a one-way fingerprint built from hardware and Windows identifiers. Reinstalling Windows or replacing a major part such as the motherboard can make the same computer look like a new device. Sign in or activate the key as usual. If activation doesn't go through, see license key errors and the lock screen or open a support ticket.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use one NetSecWall license on two PCs at the same time?
Prices are per device, so each PC you want protected must be covered by your license. Keys shared beyond the devices they cover can be blocked.
Does uninstalling NetSecWall free up my license?
No. The license stays bound to the PC on NetSecWall's server. Sign out with Help ▸ Sign in to NetSecWall… ▸ Sign out before you uninstall.
Will my traffic history move to the new PC?
No. History is stored only on the PC that recorded it, and NetSecWall has no sync between PCs. You can export it from the History tab as CSV or JSON if you want to keep a copy.
What if the old PC can't go online to sign out?
Signing out needs to reach NetSecWall's server. If the old PC can't get online, open a support ticket and ask for it to be released, as for a PC that is gone.
